I moved to Texas, nine years ago, after spending my life in the northeast and midwest parts of the country. I currently live in the "Galleria Area" of Houston with Pete, my boyfriend of two and half years, and Daphne, our rather spastic long haired calico cat.
In "real life", I am the purchasing manager for a local IT outsourcing firm. This rather enjoyable job pays for my unyielding textile addition, neccessary notions, and indispensable costume movies, provided by Netflix and tolerated by Pete.
My main concentrations of study are Western European fashions of the 16th through the 19th century. With in the perameters of the 16th century world, I have developed a taste for English and French fashions of the 1560's as I have quite an affinity for cap sleeves.
My current goal is to get away from my previous practice of "costume making" and move towards the realm of "historical clothing construction." That is to say, make clothing that is more akin to what was actually worn, rather than the flash and glitz that appeals to modern faire goers. That is not to say I will not be making my costumes decorated and detailed, rather, that I will begin to depend more on fabric manipulation and handwork, rather than taking the easy route and just adding more upolstery braid.
